Book Review: The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
Thursday, February 24, 2022The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
Genre: Contemporary romance
Synopsis: Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases—a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.
It doesn't help that Stella has Asperger's and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice—with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can't afford to turn down Stella's offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan—from foreplay to more-than-missionary position...
Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but crave all of the other things he's making her feel. Their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic...
Content/Trigger Warnings: Graphic sexual content, guilt, loss of a parent, compulsions, neurodiversity, toxic sexual content (off-page)
Overall rating: ★★★★★
I had always heard lovely things about The Kiss Quotient, but I didn’t expect to love the book as much as I did. When I started the book, I was immediately surprised by the plot. Though there’s definitely movies that include sex work (like Pretty Woman), I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that included sex work at all. It was refreshing and unique.
I really appreciated the sex positivity in the story, and particularly enjoyed that not only was the MC neurodiverse, but that the love interest knew how to support and take care of her needs.
"When you love someone, you fight for them in every way you know how."
I really love love, and this book was so sweet and steamy. I’m excited to read Helen Hoang’s other books, and just wish there was more of Stella and Michael’s story for me to gush over.
