The Latest and Greatest in Coffee Culture Trends
Friday, January 31, 2020
Hi there. Coffee lover here! Let's talk about coffee trends. I know in this day and age, folks are into following the latest coffee trends. Face it, you're probably not the only one who gets excited when a new product or flavor comes out.
For many people, coffee is a culture, not just something you drink to get through the workday. In fact, about 450 million cups of coffee are consumed in the U.S. each day. It’s no wonder why so many java trends keep popping up.
But, what are the latest and greatest trends that you should be trying for yourself? Let’s take a look.
Fair Trade and Sustainably-Grown Coffee
With growing concerns over climate change and the state of the environment, people are becoming more conscious about the products they buy and the companies they support.
Fair trade coffee is becoming more popular than ever for that very reason. Fair trade coffee connects coffee growers/farmers directly with distributors, so there are no big corporations involved, and the distributors can make sure the farmers are using sustainable practices to grow their beans.
Fair trade coffee can be found at almost any specialty store or farmer's market, but by doing a bit of research, you can find companies online to support and order bags of it to be delivered directly to your front door. I'm pretty sure there's even fair trade coffee monthly subscriptions.
Kopi Luwak Coffee
Another hot trend that continues to grow is civet coffee, or Kopi Luwak coffee. This is an incredibly unique, rare, and expensive type of coffee that is “processed” through the digestive system of Asian Palm Civets.
It’s produced in very small batches, and again, it is incredibly expensive. But, Kopi Luwak coffee is smooth, non-acidic, and has several health benefits - including protecting your teeth! If you can get your hands on a cup of this unique, brew, don’t hesitate to try it!
Nitro Coffee
If you went to any coffee shop in the country last year, you probably saw how popular nitro coffee was becoming. Look for it to continue to increase in popularity, especially during the summer months.
Nitro coffee is a cold brew coffee that’s “charged” with nitrogen. It gives it a smooth and creamy texture, and some people compare the look and mouthfeel to a rich, draft beer.
Additionally, coffee spritzers are growing in popularity. Similarly to nitro coffee, spritzers are made when baristas add just a touch of seltzer water to a cold brew to give it a little fizz. It’s a refreshing way to jazz up your standard cold brew, and will undoubtedly be featured all over your favorite coffee spots this summer.
Coffee culture is ever-changing. These are just a few of the popular trends right now, but they’ll undoubtedly change again before the year is over! That keeps coffee lovers on our toes and always on the lookout for whatever is new.
What are some of your favorite coffee trends? Have you tried any of the above trends yet?

There's a place here in Cleveland that makes what they call an "OJ Tonic," which is espresso, orange juice, & seltzer. It sounds nasty, but it's actually SO GOOD!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds absolutely horrible, but I'd probably try it. Lol.
