Books I Read: September
Tuesday, October 10, 2017September was insanely busy. I started my new job, more assignments were due for class, and Andre and I celebrated our two-year anniversary with some adventuring. Honestly, though, I really thought I read so much more than just four books. But apparently, that's all I read, and only truly enjoyed one of those four. I feel like it's been a while since I've really loved something I read. Hopefully, I'll read a bit more this month.
The Leavers by Lisa Ko* - Deming Guo's mother, an immigrant worker living in New York, disappeared when he was a child. Did she leave or was she deported? Was it something worse? The Leavers tells a story of difficult choices. This novel was heartbreaking and beautifully written. (full review here) 4/5
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls - A beautifully written memoir, this is another novel that tells the story of family and making difficult decisions. While this one was a little too slow for me, it is definitely a story of perseverance and inspiration. (full review here) 3/5
Good Me, Bad Me by Ali Land* - When Millie puts her mother in jail for the serial murder of several children, she must choose if she is like her mother or if there is good within her. This novel is a psychological thriller, but was actually pretty slow compared to other novels of a similar genre. I was disappointed by the ending of this one. (full review here) 3/5
Among the Survivors by Ann Z. Leventhal* - This story follows Karla, the daughter of a holocaust survivor. As she moves through adulthood, she tries to discover who she is in comparison to others. (full review here) 1/5
