An Homage to Momma

If you know me, you know how important my family is to me. You know that my mom is one of my best friends in the entire world. Since Mother's Day is coming up this weekend, I wanted to take a moment to honor my mom and share some pictures and memories with you all.

Treat your momma for Mother's Day with a special photo. These metal prints from Social Print Studio are great because you can't break them! If you're clumsy like me, or if you have a cat (or kid) that likes to knock things in the floor, you can't beat the unbreakable.

I'm in love with this picture from getting ready on my wedding day. The faces my mom and I are making are priceless, and I really feel like they sum up our relationship!

On my wedding day, meeting my mom at the end of the aisle. I'm so glad her and my daddy were there to give me away.

Thanksgiving 2015

So, I'm sure most people feel this way, but my mom is seriously once the best women in the entire world. She is so kind-hearted and would give the shirt off from her back to someone that needed it. In fact, she's given me a ton of clothes from her own closet when I've needed them. See that veil I'm wearing up there? Yeah, that was her's when she married my daddy over 35 years ago.

My parents first met when my mom was 12 (my dad was 17), and my mom loved him immediately. She went home and told her sister (my aunt Val) that she was going to marry that boy one day, and she did. My daddy has ultimately and completely shaped my mom's life. They were so young when she met, and I'm not sure she would know who she is without him. I think that in today's world, that women strive to be independent, and while I love that women are all amazing and strong on their own, I think it's also important to be able to love someone as much as, if not more than, you love yourself. I love that my momma loves my dad to the moon and back and that he has become an extensive of who she is.

Recently, my daddy was in the hospital due to an emergency open-heart surgery. I was scared- terrified really- for my daddy, and for momma. She was so strong. She never cried in front of us, and she rarely left dad's side. We literally had to force her to leave so she would eat. She was holding us all together, as the glue, and the strength, for her girls, her sons-in-law, and her husband. I can only hope that one day I am able to be as strong as my mom is. (Sidenote: My dad's okay, if you haven't been a reader in the past.)

My mom's birthday earlier this year. Ever since I've been able to drive, I've taken my mom to Olive Garden for her birthday. I love that I have this tradition with her.

At my cousin's birthday a few weeks ago. My mom is so freaking precious.

I am my mom made over. I have two older sisters, and while they also share traits with my mom, I am more like her than either of them, and I take great pride in that. There is no one else I would rather be like. My mom is the best and I am so glad that she is mine. I hope that as I grow older, I become kinder, stronger, and as beautiful as my momma is inside and out.

Happy Mother's Day, momma. I love you.

  4. This was such a sweet post, I am sure your mom shares similar feelings towards you as well. I am so glad your dad is doing okay. When Dave had open heart surgery in 2014, I had never felt a fear like I did that day, and then when my grandfather had an emergency open heart surgery 2 weeks ago, that fear came rushing back again but it was easier to console them since I knew what it felt like to be on the other side. xo

    1. Oh my gosh. I am so sorry you had to go through that twice! It is really just the scariest thing. I'm glad Dave is doing well, and I truly hope all is well with your grandpa.
